Teaching of Writing

This core subject is the key to accessing all other areas of the curriculum.

Writing

Children are taught to write for different purposes. These include: Report Explanations, Play-scripts, Recounts, Persuasion, Poems & Stories.

In all of these types of writing, children are challenged to consider audiences, style, grammar, punctuation, organisation and structure. Children are expected to improve the quality of their own work in response to teacher/peer comments in order to produce a final draft. We use a creative curriculum and work within subjects to stimulate children to write for a range of purposes.

Spelling and Handwriting

Children are taught a range of strategies to develop spelling skills and a special programme is used with some year groups. A clear style of handwriting is taught throughout the school.
